We have four porties in our family
We added Izzy to our family in September 2014, she immediately became the love of the family. She is a mellow PWD unless she hears the word “frisbee.” Then she is ready to run and loves to leap into the air to bring the frisbee down. She is now retired but still lives with us.
In March 2016, we knew we needed to add another member to the family. I brought Mia home from Denver and the fun has never stopped. Mia is a fun loving active portie who loves to swim. Both Mia and Izzy are from the Battis Dogs in Denver. She is retired and still lives with us.
In November 2016, we added another to the family. Sammy is a beautiful chocolate brown male from New Jersey. Sammy is an inquisitive, playful and calm puppy. He watches everything Izzy and Mia do. He loves being with the family. Thank you Muddy Run Kennel. He is retired and lives in a new home in Oklahoma.
From Izzy’s first littler (February 2017) we decided to add another dog to the family. Lulu is a beautiful female, She is a lot like Izzy, sweet and loving. She loves to wrestle with the others. She loves the water as much as Mia! She is now retired but still lives with us.
In December 2018, we added another dog to the family, Boomer! You might think we are crazy, but that’s ok. He is sweet and very outgoing. He loves attention. He is definitely the sweetest of the bunch.
In November of 2021, we got Bella. Now she doesn’t live with us, she lives in a foster home. Now that she is 2 years old we plan to start breeding her.
The breed
Portuguese water dog : porties : pwd : cao de agua
Portuguese Water Dogs are an energetic and intelligent breed originally bred to work on fishing boats in Portugal. Known for their strong swimming abilities, these dogs were used by fishermen to herd fish, retrieve nets, and guard the boat. They have a distinctive curly or wavy coat that is water-resistant, which helped them thrive in the harsh maritime environment. Portuguese Water Dogs are highly versatile and can excel in various activities, including obedience, agility, and water-related tasks. They are loyal, affectionate, and make excellent family pets, but they require regular exercise and mental stimulation to keep them happy. With their friendly disposition and hypoallergenic coat, they are a great choice for active families or individuals looking for an enthusiastic and trainable companion.
